Sissili: 221 Burkinabè repatriated from Ghana

Léo, (AIB) – The authorities of the province of Sissili, headed by them, received on Thursday July 13, 2023 at the border police station of Lan, 221 Burkinabè repatriated from Ghana.

The Burkinabè returnees arrived on the evening of Wednesday July 12, 2023 around 3:30 p.m. in Lan, a border village with Ghana.

They were welcomed by the border police before being received on Thursday July 13, 2023 in the morning by the local authorities headed by the High Commissioner of the province of Sissili, Tewindé Isaac Sia.

They are a total of 221 returnees identified by the Provincial Directorate of Gender and Humanitarian Action of Sissili.

The statistics give 67 households including 29 men, 59 women, 31 girls under five years old and 47 over five years old, 27 boys under five years old and 28 over five years old.

The first actions of the provincial authorities consisted of the census, psychosocial care and accommodation of these returnees.

They were then housed at the Lycée Municipal de Léo. According to information collected on the spot, the Burkinabè diaspora, which spent about six months on Ghanaian soil, did nothing wrong.

The population was expelled without reason.

“We were transported and our luggage with Ghanaian buses accompanied by security to the border,” the refugee spokesman told the authorities.

Some were able to recover some effects before the ransacking of our property, he lamented.

They benefited from the compassion, solidarity and support of local authorities, the health district, social action and goodwill, through the allocation of impregnated mosquito nets, vaccination of children aged 0 to five years against poliomyelitis, cash donations for urgent needs and in kind, said the provincial director in charge of gender and humanitarian action of Sissili, Touwendé Dawèga.

They also requested support from the authorities to facilitate the return of their animals to Burkina. Burkina Information Agency
