Sissili / Fundamental rights: A center raises awareness in the municipality of Léo
Léo, (AIB) – The Center for Democratic Governance (CGD) with the support of its partners initiated on Tuesday, June 06, 2023 in Léo, an information and awareness caravan for the populations of the province of Sissili on the rights and access to justice.
The Center for Democratic Governance (CGD) with the support of its technical and financial partners initiated on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 in Léo, a legal caravan of information and awareness of the urban, rural and peri-urban populations of the commune of Léo .
This sensitization focuses on human rights, the rights and duties of citizens, access to justice and the procedures to follow in the event of a violation of rights.
The CGD, through its initiative, wants to make its contribution to strengthening the rule of law, promoting citizen participation and human rights in Burkina Faso.
According to the organizers, the aim of this caravan is to provide free legal assistance and raise public awareness of fundamental rights and access to justice.
The participants, from all socio-professional layers of the municipality of Léo were entitled to communications.
The first communication presented by the prosecutor at the Tribunal de grande instance of Léo, Aboubacary Hié, concerns fundamental rights, in matters of justice, procedures for access to justice and legal acts (identity documents, act of birth, criminal record etc.).
The second, presented by the president of the special delegation of the municipality of Léo, Kassoum Koalaga and his collaborators focused on the importance of good citizenship and community involvement, citizen participation, accountability, the land issue and the Conflicts.
The Regional Director of Human Rights for the Centre-West, Léon Yaknaba, in his presentation also addressed the notion of human rights.
He also mentioned the existence of several national and international instruments such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the constitution of Burkina Faso.
The dangers associated with the violation of these rights and especially the need to respect them, in order to preserve human dignity were also mentioned by Mr. Yaknaba.
The participants were edified and enlightened, through the various themes developed by the prosecutor, Aboubacary Hié, the president of the special delegation of Léo, Kassoum Koalaga, the regional director of human rights for the center-west, Léon Yaknaba and their collaborators.
The different communities received specific advice, in line with the objectives pursued by the legal caravan, through experts in the protection of fundamental rights.
