Comedian Lee Kyung-gyu sympathized with the fear of stomach cancer.
The SBS TV entertainment show ‘Lee Kyung-gyu’s Amazing habits’, which aired on the 15th, dealt with the fear of stomach cancer.
Korea ranks first in the incidence of stomach cancer. Lee Gyeong-gyu, the MC of the program, said, “Korea has K-pop and K-food… “I have so much to be proud of,” he lamented.
Kyung-gyu Lee was previously found to have a stomach ulcer and Helicobacter pylori.
Above all, an episode in which he fainted due to bleeding from a stomach ulcer was revealed. Lee Gyeong-gyu, who was said to have lost consciousness while visiting a bear eel resturant in the past, underwent an emergency endoscopy in the emergency room and was diagnosed with bleeding due to a stomach ulcer.
A family medicine specialist who also appeared said, “Ulcer bleeding means that blood is gushing out of the body, and it is indeed no different from grilling eel while bleeding.”
The specialist diagnosed, “In the case of ulcerative bleeding, there is a lot of blood coming out of the stomach.” This means that “the eel was being grilled with blood pouring out.”
In the meantime, Lee Gyeong-gyu said, “I collapsed right after grilling the eel and couldn’t eat a single piece.” He also said, “After overcoming the near-death crisis a few times, I reduced my drinking a lot.”
Simultaneously occurring, Lee Gyeong-gyu suddenly sighed at the doctor’s recommendation that it be good to eat three meals a day at regular times for stomach health.

How can individuals effectively manage their risk of stomach ulcers and related complications?
Interview between Time.news Editor and Dr. Choi, Family Medicine Specialist
Editor: Welcome, Dr.Choi! Thank you for joining us today. We recently had a spotlight on comedian Lee Kyung-gyu’s experience with stomach issues, particularly his near-fatal encounter with a stomach ulcer. Can you share why stomach cancer is such a significant concern in Korea?
Dr. Choi: Thank you for having me. Yes, stomach cancer is indeed a major health issue in Korea, where we have the highest incidence in the world. Several factors contribute to this, including dietary habits, genetic predisposition, and the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori infections, wich are known to cause stomach ulcers and increase cancer risk.
Editor: That’s engaging. lee Kyung-gyu highlighted his personal struggle with Helicobacter pylori and a stomach ulcer, which can lead to more severe complications, including bleeding. What exactly happens during ulcer bleeding?
Dr. Choi: Ulcer bleeding occurs when the lining of the stomach is eroded to the point that it bleeds. This is a serious condition because it can lead to significant blood loss. In the case of Lee Kyung-gyu, he experienced a severe instance of this when he fainted at a restaurant. It’s critical for people to recognize symptoms like severe abdominal pain or sudden dizziness, as these could indicate a bleeding ulcer that needs immediate medical attention.
Editor: It truly seems that Lee had a particularly alarming experience. He mentioned fainting while visiting a restaurant, which led to an emergency endoscopy. How common is it for individuals to experience such severe symptoms?
Dr.Choi: While not everyone with a stomach ulcer will experience severe bleeding,it can happen, especially if the ulcer is deep and untreated. Many individuals don’t know they have an ulcer until they face severe consequences. That’s why regular check-ups and awareness of symptoms are essential, especially in populations at risk.
Editor: Lee also discussed making life changes after his experience, including reducing alcohol consumption. How significant is lifestyle in managing stomach health?
Dr. Choi: Lifestyle choices play a crucial role in gastrointestinal health. Reducing alcohol intake, avoiding spicy and acidic foods, managing stress, and following a balanced diet can definitely help reduce the risk of developing ulcers and even stomach cancer. Lee’s experience is a powerful reminder of the need for individuals to pay attention to their health and make informed choices.
Editor: Absolutely. As we conclude, what advice would you give to those who might be concerned about stomach cancer, especially given the alarming statistics in Korea?
Dr. Choi: Regular screenings and consultations with healthcare providers are essential, especially for those with risk factors like a family history of stomach cancer. Additionally, maintaining a healthy diet and being aware of any changes in your gastrointestinal health can make a significant difference. And remember, if you experience any worrisome symptoms, don’t hesitate to seek medical advice.
