Compared to the previous processor, the CEVA-XC20 processor is 2.5 times more efficient in energy consumption and silicon space; Designed for 5G-Advanced standard applications in smartphones, broadband cellular modems and cellular infrastructures

The connectivity and smart sensing technology provider Civa (NASDAQ: CEVA) will reveal at the annual cellular exhibition in Barcelona the most advanced communication processor it has developed so far, CEVA-XC20. The new communication processor provides a solution to the challenges of the new 5G-Advanced standard and can be upgraded by expanding the processing units, and is intended for a variety of broadband cellular products and applications, including smartphones, wireless networks and industrial terminals, and cellular base stations.

“green” chips

The new communications processor will allow chip companies and end-to-end manufacturers to design “green” chips that are more environmentally friendly, with smaller hardware space and extremely economical energy consumption. Siva stated that the new processor was designed after consultation with leading manufacturers who are among its customers, and in accordance with their requirements – with the aim of improving the performance of cellular networks and energy efficiency.

The new processor includes a hardware mechanism for multiple processes (multi-thread) which until now was only supported in central processors of the CPU type, which improves 2.5 times the efficiency and performance in terms of power consumption and silicon area in 5th generation applications, compared to the previous processor. Siva stated that the first processor based on the new architecture, the CEVA-XC22, will be available to customers in the second quarter of this year, alongside the communication chip design services offered by the company.

Energy efficiency

The director of the cellular division in Siva, Guy Keshet, said: “The advanced 5th generation guarantees higher bandwidth and lower latency, and at the same time will enable the development of energy-efficient and more environmentally friendly products. The environmental issue is a significant challenge for wireless device manufacturers and cellular network operators, and the new communication processor CEVA-XC20 meets this challenge and provides unprecedented energy efficiency for cellular applications. We are proud of the joint work with our customers to consistently improve the mobile experience and to help reduce the environmental impact of new technologies.’
