Police have registered a case against owner Vazhividu Murugan in 7 divisions following the death of 4 workers in an explosion at a firecracker factory near Sivakasi in Virudhunagar district. An explosion took place this morning at a firecracker factory owned by Vazhividu Murugan in Kalathur near Sivakasi in Virudhunagar district. The fire is said to have erupted during the process of making ammunition. In this, 7 rooms were completely destroyed due to the explosion of explosives in the firecracker making rooms.

Firefighters rushed to the scene from Sivakasi in two fire trucks, doused the fire with water and rescued those trapped in the rubble. Four workers, including Kumar, Periyasamy and Selvam, were burnt to death in the blast. Eight persons including Gopalakrishnan, Muniandi, Kaliyappan, Alagharsamy and Murugesan were injured.
