Six lanes, 84 stations; Metro is coming to change the face of Riyadh

Riyadh – The Riyadh Metro project will be completed by the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024, said the Mayor of Riyadh, Prince Faisal bin Abdulaziz bin Ayyaf. Riyadh Metro is considered to be the largest infrastructure project currently being implemented in a city. The project will have 6 lines and a total of 84 stations. Metro will contribute a lot in solving the traffic problem.

90 percent of trips in the Saudi capital are by car. Coming to metro can solve this problem and save half of the time spent on journeys. He also stated that the public parking project in Riyadh will be implemented within two years. In addition, there will be a modern transport network and the development of multiple hubs in Riyadh to ensure distribution of population density and traffic trips through these hubs.

Blue, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green and Purple lanes

With the launch of the six-lane Riyadh Metro service, a new facet of public transport is being presented to the city of Riyadh. The trains will be serviced through six lines in different colors of blue, red, orange, yellow, green and purple.

The Blue Line starts from the north of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Street and ends at Darul Baida in the south along Ulaya and Batha Streets. It is unique that most of this lane, which connects the north-south sections, passes through an underground tunnel. There are stations to the north and south of the city center of Batha. The length of this line is 38 km. Apart from four transfer stations there are also 22 sub stations. The Red Line is about 25.3 km long, passing through King Abdullah Road between King Saud University and Eastern Sub-centre. Apart from three transfer stations, the Red Line has 13 stations.

The yellow lane starts from King Abdullah Financial District and reaches King Khalid International Airport. The yellow lane is 29.6 km long and has 8 stations and a transfer station. The route passes through a tunnel under King Abdulaziz Street between the King Abdulaziz Historical Center and Riyadh Airbase before connecting with King Abdullah Road.

The length of Green Line is 12.9 km. It includes two transfer stations and 10 sub-stations. The Purple Line starts from King Abdullah Financial District, passes through Imam Mohammed Bin Saud University and ends at Amir Saud Bin Abdurrahman Al Awal Road. The approximately 29.9-kilometer-long road crosses Sheikh Hassan Bin Hussain Bin Ali Street at ground level and rests over the bridge. Apart from 3 transfer stations, 8 stations are included.

The longest orange lane runs east-west along Al Madinah Munawwara and Amir Saad bin Abdurrahman Al Awwal roads. It starts in the west near the Jeddah Expressway and ends near the National Guard Camp in the east. The route, estimated to be about 40.7 km long, has two transfer stations and 20 sub-stations.
