by time news

62% of Italians promote the National Health Service in their region of residence during the pandemic and 90% of citizens focus on home care for future investments. The most enthusiastic about the current health service are the inhabitants of the north-east (88%) and central Italy (80%), 53.8% of the residents of the islands and 48.2% of the inhabitants are not satisfied or not at all. of southern Italy. Healthcare therefore promoted: six out of ten Italians are very or quite satisfied with how this has reacted to the pandemic. For the future and to improve public health for almost nine out of ten Italians, it is equally important to increase screening activities and strengthen prevention initiatives. The pandemic and the role of health professionals have brought to light the need for new hires: for 85.8% of respondents it is very important to improve the planning of medical personnel to be hired, as well as the development of health education activities in schools and among the population (86%).

These are some of the data that emerge from the survey promoted by Confindustria Medical Devices and carried out by Community Research & Analysis, anticipated by the president of the Association, Massimiliano Boggetti, in the hearing in the Senate Hygiene and Health Committee on the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (Pnrr). The survey investigates the sentiment of Italians towards the National Health Service one year after the outbreak of the pandemic and tells who are winners and losers according to the interviewees in what is still the toughest battle of the new millennium.

But a pandemic year has also changed the perception of some medical devices as life-saving products. Although many of these are considered particularly important for the purpose of safeguarding life with average values greater than four, we find pulmonary ventilators in first place (very / very important for 95.8%) followed by the mask (90.5%). With values above 80% (very / very important) are placed the diagnostic swabs, oximeter and syringes.

The greater knowledge of the devices that populate hospitals and the vital importance of tools such as pulmonary ventilators has certainly contributed to highlighting the importance of a state-of-the-art hospital technology park: 84.6% of respondents believe it is indispensable for the improvement of the National Health Service, the renewal of the machinery and technologies present in the hospital.

“One year after the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic in our country – says Massimiliano Boggetti, president of Confindustria Medical Devices – it is interesting to sum up what has been a terrible year, which has highlighted some focal points: the SN service is indispensable as are medical devices. For years the victim of unjustified cuts, the NHS has shown in the darkest period to be an essential resource for the well-being and survival of Italians. Aware of what have been and continue to be the limits of our country, from the age-old hospital technology park to the excessive taxation of companies that are fundamental for the maintenance of health care and therefore of the country, it is now necessary to treasure what we have learned to plan a restart that gains momentum from investments in production, from the value of technological innovation and research, from the importance of assistance both in the hospital and on the territory “.

Put to the test during the Covid-19 pandemic, the National Health Service has been the great protagonist of the public and political debate of the last year. To the point that today almost seven out of ten Italians prefer it to the private one. If only 17.2% of Italians recognize an improvement in the health service in their region in the last five years, the macro-regional differences are particularly significant: while 88% of the residents of the north-east say they are very or fairly satisfied. from 80% of the inhabitants of central Italy, the favor expressed by residents of the North West (55.6%) and Southern Italy (51.8%) is weaker. The most disappointed are the inhabitants of the islands: for 53.8% of them, the health service of the region of residence responded to the pandemic in an inadequate or inadequate way.

The difference between women and men is significant in assessing the state of health of the public healthcare offer. During the last five years, for 40.8% of women, Italy has worsened the quality of the services provided by the health system while the decrease in the level of public services is a fitting photograph of reality only for 29.2% of men. Over half of men consider the quality of the services offered to be stable (52.2%) while women, in this regard, are more skeptical (40.6%). With increasing age, the share of those who see a worsening of the public health offer also increases, including both hospitals and territorial medicine: it goes from 26.5% of the 18-34 age group up to 38, 1% of over-fifty-year-olds. Despite this, it is well underlined that the absolute majority of respondents express a positive evaluation, noting its stability or improvement, a sign of the resilience of the national health service in the middle of the pandemic phase.
