A fire in a private house in the town of Pochinka, Smolensk Region, killed six people, including five children. The Investigative Committee of Russia (TFR) opened two criminal cases.
According to a TASS source, the fire occurred on Sverdlov Street. The combustion area was 80 square meters. m, the house was completely burned down. An 88-year-old woman and five children were killed, of which the youngest was not a year old, the oldest was 12 years old. An interlocutor of the agency in emergency services said that the cause of the fire was an overload of the power grid. The prosecutor’s office said that no fire detectors were installed in the house.
The TFR does not give the exact number of deaths, but confirms that there are minors among them. Two cases were initiated – under Part 3 of Art. 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing death by negligence), as well as under Part 3 of Art. 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (negligence) in relation to the social security authorities, according to the website of the TFR.
The Governor of the Smolensk Region Alexei Ostrovsky expressed condolences to the families and friends of those killed in the fire, and also instructed to provide them with material assistance. “It is especially bitter to realize that children died in the fire. My condolences to family and friends in connection with such an inconsolable grief. He instructed to provide assistance to the relatives of the victims, ”said the governor, quoted by his press service.
