SK Hynix announced in January the memory LPDDR5T, taking into account that the final T means ‘turbo’, and hence it says that according to the company it is the fastest in the sector, used mainly by mobile devices —laptops, tablets, phones, etc.—. It’s now been validated at its 9.6 Gb/s speed on Mediatek devices, so it looks like it’s almost ready to hit the consumer market in early 2024.
The chips provided for validation are 16 GB, which include several LPDDR5T chips in the same package, reaching a memory bandwidth of 77 GB/s. The chips will be mass-produced with the 1α nanometer process, its fourth-generation process based on 10nm technologies, during the second half of 2023.
This memory has a speed 13% higher than the LPDDR5X that it announced in November and that reached 8.5 Gb/s. The company already warns that this memory is prior to the announcement of LPDDR6, probably in the second half of the year with a launch in 2024.
