Skoda Elroq, the new electric SUV priced like or even cheaper than its gasoline equivalent

by time news

Skoda launches the Elroq, the cheapest electric car in its catalogue. On sale from 33,900 euros, it is one of the solutions of the Volkswagen car group to face the drop in demand in Europe and the growing competition from China. This starting price, similar to that of the gasoline-engined Karoq, makes it an affordable alternative for those considering the transition to zero-emission mobility. We must not forget that the price, higher than the price of equivalent internal combustion cars, is a brake on the expansion of electric cars. And in this case, the discount on aid from the Moves III plan must still be applied, so that the figure can be reduced by several thousand more euros.

The Elroq comes to market as the first model to adopt the brand’s new design language

Available with several engine and battery options, the Elroq can achieve a maximum range of more than 560 kilometers. In addition, it is the first model to adopt the brand’s new design language. At the front, the typical grille disappears to incorporate a glossy black piece at the ends with an integrated four-segment light signature that functions as daytime running lights. The First Edition version exclusively has a strip of light that runs along the front and connects them. In all versions, the traditional logo has been replaced by the brand name.

The Elroq is a compact SUV that does not reach 4.5 meters in length

The Elroq, with a length of 448 centimeters and a width of 188 cm, offers a cargo capacity of 470 liters, expandable up to 1,580 liters if the back of the rear bench is folded down. The trunk has a tray that can be placed at different levels and incorporates a net at the back for storing small items. The floor also has a double bottom to store the charging cables. These are two of the different Simply Clever solutions that the car is equipped with. Other things that are more strange are the ice scraper on the tailgate and the umbrella hidden on the side door.

Mechanical range

As for the mechanical versions, there are four other options depending on the engine and battery capacity chosen: the Elroq 50, 60, 85 and 85x. The first, which is the entry variant to the range, is to mount a 125 kW and 310 Nm motor on the rear axle (so it has rear wheel drive). Its 55 kWh battery (52 kWh net) offers a range of more than 370 kilometers. The Elroq 60 is equipped with a 150 kW and 310 Nm engine, which also has rear wheel drive. With a 63 kWh battery (59 kWh net) it can travel more than 400 km, and the maximum speed is 160 km/h.

The interior is digitized and has a modern design

The two highest power versions incorporate the largest battery, with a capacity of 82 kWh (77 kWh net). In the Elroq 85, it is combined with a 210 kW rear motor that provides a maximum torque of 545 Nm. The Elroq 85x is equipped with an additional head on the front axle, which allows you to enjoy all-wheel drive. Both versions reach a maximum speed of 180 km/h. The Elroq 85 has one of the highest maximum ranges in the segment, with more than 560 kilometers in the WLTP cycle.

The 82 kWh battery can be recharged from 10 to 80 percent in 28 minutes at a fast DC station

With charging powers of up to 175 kW, the 82 kWh battery can be recharged from 10 to 80 percent in 28 minutes at direct current fast charging stations. For the Elroq 50 and Elroq 60, which support charge rates of up to 145 kW and up to 165 kW respectively, the same process takes 25 minutes or less. All Elroq models support charging rates of up to 11 kW at AC charging stations.

The seat covers are made of sustainable TechnoFil fabric in anthracite and gray artificial leather. There is a First Edition badge on the three-spoke steering wheel; The pedals have stainless steel covers. The extensive standard equipment also includes a 13-inch infotainment screen, Head-up Display with augmented reality, the KESSY Advanced system with Walkaway function and rear side airbags.
