Gut feeling is usually the deciding factor when it comes to buying a car. This applies even when many people are tightening their belts. In terms of cost-benefit, people here complete the Škoda brand relatively quickly. For several years now, people have been very successful in selling basic sensible cars that still inspire a kind of “want to have” effect.

Anyone for whom the Fabia is too small as an entry-level model – preferably for families with children – will opt for the Kamiq within Škoda’s range. As a 4.2-metre five-seater SUV, it sits right at the intersection between everyday use and visual appeal and also doesn’t put a lot of holes in the family budget. As careful as VW’s Czech subsidiary is when it comes to equipping its vehicles – the key word being “simple-smart details” – the model strategy is just as smart. Because if you want, you can really pimp up the cute, SUV understatement. The top models are what Škoda calls “Monte Carlo”, which, like the Kamiq, come with black color contrasts, large 18-inch models and other features such as a panoramic glass roof and LED matrix headlights. Equipped with 150 hp and fine seven-speed DSG, the test car costs a whopping 45,000 euros. The question remains whether this is economical luxury or luxurious saving. After all, the price for the standard Kamiq starts at 25,970 euros.
