Sky TV Update: HBO Max & More | What’s New?

by priyanka.patel tech editor

Get ready to simplify your streaming life. Sky customers in the UK and Ireland are about to unlock a treasure trove of content, thanks to a new deal that bundles HBO Max, Disney+, and Hayu into existing Sky TV packages. The changes, rolling out this March, aim to create a seamless entertainment experience, and frankly, could save you a bundle.

  • From March, eligible Sky TV subscribers gain access to Disney+ and select Hayu content at no extra cost.
  • The ‘Sky TV Ultimate’ bundle, priced at £24 per month, includes HBO Max, Disney+, Hayu, Netflix, and the standard Sky Entertainment package.
  • Existing Disney+ subscribers can seamlessly transfer their accounts to Sky without losing viewing history.
  • Sky Stream, Sky Glass, and Sky Q customers are all eligible for the new offerings.

The biggest news? HBO Max will officially launch in the UK on March 26, and Sky customers will have access as part of their subscription. But the benefits don’t stop there. New and existing users on eligible Sky TV plans will also receive Disney+ and a selection of shows from Hayu – all included in the price.

For just £24 a month, the ‘Sky TV Ultimate’ package delivers a serious entertainment punch: HBO Max, Disney+, Hayu, Netflix, and the usual Sky Entertainment offerings. This applies to anyone with Sky Stream, Sky Glass, or Sky Q. Sky+ customers can also look forward to HBO Max and Hayu being added to their existing plans. And if you’re already a Disney+ subscriber, you can move your account to Sky without any disruption to your watch history.

Sky isn’t stopping there. Customers can also bundle the entertainment package with full fibre broadband and a Sky Stream device for £41 a month, offering even greater value. Those on Now subscriptions will automatically receive access to HBO Max with ads starting March 26, as part of the new plan. New Now customers will pay £6.99 per month for Now Entertainment and HBO Max, while Now Entertainment alone will soon cost £4.99 a month.

Sophia Ahmad, Sky’s chief consumer officer, described the new Sky TV subscription as a “world-first.” She explained that the Sky OS will integrate apps from all the best streaming services directly into the Sky home page. This means easy access to content across different platforms through ‘Top Picks’, ‘Continue Watching’, and ‘Playlists’ – where you can save and pause shows – as well as voice control.

What Will You Soon Be Able to Watch?

Sky customers in the UK and Ireland are poised to enjoy a significant expansion of content thanks to the new partnership with Disney and the continued collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery.

Existing Sky TV users will unlock the Disney+ ‘Standard’ plan with ads for free, saving £5.99 a month and gaining access to a vast library of on-demand content. This includes popular FX shows like The Bear, blockbuster Disney movies like Moana 2, and the latest Marvel releases, such as The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Sky Cinema subscribers will also gain access to a dedicated Disney+ Cinema channel. Warner Bros. Discovery movies will continue to be available on Sky Cinema, alongside content from Sky, Paramount, and NBCUniversal.

Hayu content will be rolled out in stages. A selection of shows, including Below Deck and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, will be available from March, with the full Hayu library integrated by July, offering new episodes on the same day as their US premiere.

Beyond Disney+ and Hayu, Sky TV customers will also have access to HBO Max with ads. The Sky Atlantic channel will remain the home for existing HBO Max hits, while new HBO shows will be available through the app.

This is a major shake-up in the streaming landscape, and Sky is clearly positioning itself as the central hub for all your entertainment needs. It’s a smart move that could attract new customers and keep existing ones happy.
