New Delhi: Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu was lodged in Barrack No. 10 of Patiala Central Jail yesterday on remand No. 241383. He was staying with eight people charged with murder. At 7.15 pm he was given chapati and curry but was not ready to eat. Only salads and fruits were eaten. He was lying on a cement bed.

Sidhu was sentenced to life imprisonment. Vocational training will be provided for the first three months as per prison rules. No pay at this time. After that, the unskilled prisoner will get Rs 40 per day and the skilled prisoner Rs 60.

Sidhu was yesterday sentenced to one year in jail by the Supreme Court in connection with the murder of Gurnam Singh, 65, who was attacked in the December 27, 1998 incident. A bench headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana had yesterday approached the apex court seeking more time to surrender due to ill health but refused to consider the case. He then went to the Patiala court and surrendered.
