Severe Weather Causes Hazards on Roads in Massachusetts and New Hampshire

Heavy rain and some snow have created hazardous driving conditions on highways and roads in Massachusetts and New Hampshire on Wednesday morning. Authorities are urging travelers to exercise caution as they make their way to their Thanksgiving destinations.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation announced that speeds on the Massachusetts Turnpike from Blandford, west of Springfield, to the New York border have been lowered to 40 miles per hour for all vehicles.

MassDOT reported deploying 400 pieces of equipment, particularly in Western and Central Massachusetts, where rain and cold temperatures are creating challenging driving conditions.

In a social media post, MassDOT advised travelers to check Mass511 for updated road conditions, especially due to heavy rainfall expected on Wednesday.

In New Hampshire, State Police reported a crash that forced the closure of a northbound lane on Interstate 89 near mile marker 50. Troopers also reported difficult travel conditions on highways across the state, responding to vehicles off the roadway and minor crashes. They urged travelers to leave plenty of time to reach their destinations, slow down, and drive according to the current conditions.
