In a joint press release published following the meetings held in Rabat between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans living abroad, Nasser Bourita and the Vice-President of the Government and Slovenian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tanja Fajon, Morocco and Slovenia underlined the centrality of the historic and privileged partnership between the Kingdom and the EU, highlighting the importance of this strategic partnership for both parties.
Both countries reiterated their commitment to contributing to strengthening cooperation, dialogue and partnership in the Euro-African region and between the EU and its southern neighborhood, in order to address common challenges, particularly in the area of security, stability, migration and social and economic development.
Regarding regional issues, the two sides exchanged views on issues of common interest, including new challenges to peace and security in the Sahel region, while emphasizing their positive and constructive role in maintaining stability, security and peace in their respective regions.
They also affirmed their commitment to international legality and the peaceful resolution of conflicts and disputes, adds the press release, noting that Slovenia recognizes the important role of Morocco in favor of security in the region and welcomes its commitment to stability, the fight against terrorism and cooperation in the management of cross-border migration.
The two sides also discussed possibilities for close cooperation in the field of internal security and law enforcement, particularly in the fight against organized crime, sexual exploitation of children, cybercrime, money laundering, fraud and economic crimes, corruption, document falsification and terrorism.
Furthermore, Mr. Bourita congratulated Ms. Tanja Fajon for Slovenia’s membership in the United Nations Security Council for the period 2024-2025, while welcoming the inclusive approach adopted by Slovenia in the work of the Security Council as well as the relevant priorities of his mandate within this UN body, in favor of the maintenance of international peace and security.
The two parties committed to working closely and continuing consultation and coordination within international organizations on multilateral issues of common interest.
Within the framework of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), the two ministers encouraged cooperation between the Euro-Mediterranean university EMUNI based in Piran and the Euromed University of Fez, and agreed to promote bilateral academic cooperation and in the areas of science, research, innovation and the blue economy, capable of creating opportunities for youth empowerment throughout the Euro-Mediterranean region.
The Slovenian Minister of Foreign Affairs is making an official visit to Morocco, at the invitation of Mr. Bourita, on the occasion of the celebration of the 32nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Slovenia.
