Supplies from Azerbaijan have become an additional opportunity to diversify gas supplies to Slovenia.
As reported by Day.Az with reference to Trend, this was stated today by the Minister of Environment, Climate and Energy of Slovenia Bojan Kumer in Ljubljana, commenting on the start of supplies of Azerbaijani gas to Slovenia by SOCAR on August 1.
“I believe that this and subsequent transactions will lead to long-term successful cooperation not only between the two companies, but also between the two countries,” said B. Kumer.
He noted that Slovenia continued to diversify its natural gas supply routes.
“Thanks to this, we literally saved and safely supplied Slovenia with natural gas for the coming winter,” said B. Kumer.
The Minister stressed that supplies from Azerbaijan, as an important strategic supplier to the EU, represent an additional opportunity to diversify gas supplies to Slovenia.
B. Kumer also noted that during a visit to Baku on July 17, 2024, an agreement was reached with Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov to make efforts to open up opportunities for cooperation between companies of the two countries in other areas: “We have outlined new areas for cooperation – from hydrogen, artificial intelligence to renewable energy sources.”
It should be noted that on August 1, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) began gas supplies to Slovenia. Gas supplies are carried out in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding on expanding cooperation in the field of gas supply between SOCAR and Geoplin, the largest company in Slovenia on the natural gas market, signed on July 17 of this year.
