Slowly but surely, womb transplantation is spreading around the world

A second woman has just been operated on in France, out of some 100 operations recorded on the planet.

Like the second uterus transplant that has just been carried out in France at the Foch hospital in Suresnes, each successful transplant announcement reinforces the hope of hundreds of thousands of women around the world. It is estimated that one in 500 girls is born with Rokitansky syndrome (MRKH), which deprives her of a uterus and therefore makes her sterile. Added to this are those who have had to undergo a hysterectomy as a result of cancer or hemorrhage during childbirth. That is about 200,000 women of childbearing age in Europe.

To date, nearly 100 uterine transplants have been performed worldwide. France claims two, the first of which, also conducted at Foch Hospital, saw a young woman named Deborah give birth to a baby in February 2021.
