Of the more than 7 slums that will be removed, the Ministry of Culture estimates that there are at least 10 houses in each area. Irregular buildings adjacent to historic buildings will be removed in two phases. The first demolition work will be carried out with the help of large machinery and equipment. In the second phase, the work will be carried out with the direct assistance of the workers. The Ministry hopes that the historic buildings will be preserved as such activities are carried out with strict standards.

Tens of thousands of illegal immigrants arrested in slums of Jeddah

Riyadh: Mecca Regional Director of Police Maj. Gen. Salih al-Jabri has announced that tens of thousands of unidentified people have been arrested in Jeddah for evacuating slums for urban development. He was speaking on the show ‘In the Picture’ on the ‘Rotana Khaleejia’ channel.

He called on all illegal occupants to have their records corrected. He said 60 million riyals and more than 100 kg of gold were seized from the slums. The money and gold were seized while preparations were being made to smuggle them out of the country. He pointed out that people from different countries have turned slums into their bases for human trafficking.

Slums, which have become safe havens for drug traffickers, have become a major threat to society. Within a few days, 218 kg of cannabis was seized from the slums. He said that as a result of such activities, slums have become a source of transmission of various diseases and contagious diseases.

Al-Jabri explained that the crime rate in the area has dropped by 12 percent since the slums began to be removed, and will rise to 20 percent after the slums are completely removed. Salih al-Jabri said there was no fear that anti-social elements in the area would relocate after the slums were cleared, and that security forces were closely monitoring such people.

Jeddah Urban Development; 34 slums will be removed

Riyadh: As part of Jeddah’s Jeddah development plan, 34 of the city’s 64 slums will be completely removed. Jeddah Mayor Salih al-Turki said the slums were overcrowded with unoccupied houses and that the area was in a state of disrepair.

The remaining 30 slums, which are mostly inhabited by Saudi nationals, have a number of random structures but are not currently being removed. He said detailed plans have been drawn up to develop the slums and give ownership of the buildings to the homeless and other homeless citizens.
