Smålänningen was founded in 1921 by Elfrid Dürango. In 1935, it merged with Älmhult’s newspaper. Today, the newspaper has a circulation of 12,200 copies and is read by 35,000 people, mainly in the municipalities of Ljungby, Markaryd, and Älmhult. Smålänningen is a part of Bonnier News Local, which is the leading local media group in Sweden.
