Small Seaplane Crashes Into Lake in Sweden, Two Men Reported Safe

Grängesberg, Sweden – In a daring and fortunate rescue operation, a small seaplane crashed into Lake Södra Hörken on Saturday evening, but both occupants escaped unharmed.

The incident occurred when the seaplane attempted to land on the lake but encountered a strong side wind. This caused one of the wings to touch the water’s surface, resulting in the crash. Witnesses who observed the incident immediately raised the alarm, prompting a swift response from the Maritime and Aviation Rescue Center (JRCC).

According to Lars Nilsson, the air rescue leader, the two men on board the seaplane, both aged 35, were fortunate to escape with no physical injuries. “They are shocked but should not be physically injured,” said police spokesperson Gabriel Henning.

The alarm about the aircraft crash was received by the emergency services through a call made to the emergency number, 112, at 7:42 pm. William Kokkonen, group manager at SOS Alarm, confirmed that the alert came through at that time.

The rescue operation was carried out promptly by the JRCC, along with assistance from local authorities. The seaplane was successfully retrieved from the lake, and an investigation into the cause of the crash has been initiated.

Seaplane accidents are relatively rare, and the fact that both passengers survived without serious injuries is considered fortunate. The incident serves as a reminder of the risks involved in aviation, especially during challenging weather conditions.

The seaplane crash has garnered attention and praise for the swift response of the rescue teams in making sure the occupants were safe. Authorities are urging caution and adherence to safety protocols to prevent such incidents in the future.

As investigations into the incident continue, the JRCC and local authorities are assessing the appropriate measures to prevent similar incidents and ensure the safety of seaplane operations in the region.
