We show you small smartphones that convince

The trend towards ever larger mobile phones can hardly be stopped – nevertheless, many users still want small smartphones that are comfortable to hold and have the same features as large, new devices. Here you can find out which devices are currently doing everything right.

BWith some of the smartphones that are new to the market these days, you could almost think that you are dealing with a tablet – huge displays are more popular than ever before, although they have lost an essential mobile phone feature: they can only be used difficult to operate with one hand.

Many users who do not want to do without a compact phone in everyday life or who prefer a small model for sports, work or outdoor trips are therefore interested in small smartphones. From a technical point of view, these should of course be in no way inferior to the large devices. In the following we show which products are particularly popular at the moment.

Small smartphones: a quick overview of popular products

Small Samsung phone: Galaxy smartphones with the perfect size

Smartphones feel bigger with every new generation. However, Samsung has noted that some customers prefer smaller cell phones.

The Samsung Galaxy S10e * still stands out in particular. Thanks to the almost frameless infinity display, the 5.8-inch touchscreen appears larger.

If you want to go easy on your wallet and can do without a few features, you are on the safe side with the Samsung Galaxy A20e *. The economy model is the same size as the S10e and also has an infinity display.

Small iPhone: 5-inch smartphones from Apple

The manufacturer Apple also has a small smartphone. The iPhone 12 mini * is only 5.4 inches tall and has numerous first-class features. Among them: a powerful camera that takes good photos and videos. So if you are particularly interested in taking photos with your mobile phone, you will be very satisfied with this small smartphone.

If 5 inches is already too big, Apple offers another solution: the new iPhone SE *. From a technical point of view, a 4-inch smartphone that can keep up with larger devices is hard to come by. The SE device is the exception. With the only 4.7-inch model with Retina HD display, the US company has refreshed what is probably the biggest favorite of Apple fans. Storage space is not lost despite the size: the iPhone SE is available in 64 GB, 128 GB, or 256 GB.

5-inch smartphone: the perfect size?

Not too big and not too small: A 5-inch smartphone proves to be the ideal companion in everyday life, because the display is compact, but still has a sufficiently large screen to also watch videos.

A popular smartphone in this format is the Sony Xperia X *. There is a lot of power in the 5-inch device: the Xperia mobile phone has a 23 megapixel camera and a 13 megapixel front camera. In addition, there is a battery life of up to 2 days and an internal memory of 32 GB.

Also worth mentioning is the Fairphone 3 + * with 5.6 inches, which was released in 2020 and is made from fairly sourced and recycled materials.

If you want to opt for a particularly affordable model with an Android operating system or are looking for an affordable entry-level model, the Blackview BV5500 * with a 5.5-inch display could be of interest.

Small Android cell phone: As an inexpensive second model

Most of the small smartphones presented here run with Android, so fans of compact models are very likely to come into contact with this operating system. The robust Cubot Kingkong Mini 2 * with a 4-inch screen diagonal is also designed for this purpose.

It is particularly suitable for being accessible during sports or outdoor tours. In the long run, however, it is likely to be too small and underperforming for sole use.

This also applies to the Jelly Pro * with only 2.45 inches in a practical pocket size. With a music player, GPS, Bluetooth, 8- and 2-megapixel camera and 4G LTE, it has many useful features for little money.

Mini smartphone: what should it be able to do?

First of all, of course, the appearance and handling are decisive. Is a mini smartphone easy to hold? Smaller devices with a screen diagonal of four to five inches are particularly advantageous here. However, it is also important to consider: the smaller the display, the more difficult it is to read the content on the phone – it is therefore advisable, especially for frequent users, to opt for a slightly larger model in order to save eyes and nerves when using it.

However, it is also crucial to take a look at the hardware – since the trend is still towards larger smartphone models, manufacturers such as Apple or Samsung are now placing less emphasis on small smartphones with a lot of performance. Despite all this, older models from previous years in particular can still keep up with current power cell phones.
