Small visible veins of the legs: what to do?

OUR HEALTH ADVICE – Seeming to suddenly surface, these “varicosities” are more of an aesthetic problem than a medical one.

It may have happened to you before: you put on some pants, get out of the shower or spread sunscreen on the beach and suddenly you notice for the first time the presence of these blue or purple filaments. Farewell immaculate legs! In medical language, we call “varicosities” or “telangiectasias” these small veins which furrow the legs and the feet. Should we be worried about it? Where do they come from?

When all is well, the veins have valves that prevent blood from flowing back down. Sometimes these valves lose their tone and they can no longer close properly. The blood then goes to the feet rather than the heart, and it accumulates in the veins. This results in increased pressure which, over time, can weaken the walls of the veins and dilate them further, resulting in the appearance of purplish branches.

Varicosities are therefore nothing more than permanent dilations of very small veins…
