SMHI warns of an anticipated increase in snowfall

by time news

The forecast predicts that snow may arrive overnight and continue into Monday. However, a yellow warning is in effect when the wind picks up in the morning. Emma Rosengren, a meteorologist at SMHI, states that eastern Svealand and southernmost Gävleborg county may experience longer snow and increased wind. As a result, Emma advises people to leave early if they have to travel.

Snowfall may vary locally, with expected snow ranging from five to fifteen centimeters. However, some areas in Uppsala county could see up to 20 centimeters of snow. Emma warns about snow drifts and poorer visibility when it’s windy, making handling the snowfall a bit more challenging.

The snow can already come during the night towards Monday, but it is only when the wind increases during the morning that a yellow warning applies.

– It can snow for a longer time in eastern Svealand and southernmost Gävleborg county and in connection with that the wind also increases, says Emma Rosengren, meteorologist at SMHI.

Drive training can set to problems for both private individuals and public transport. Emma Rosengren advises anyone who has to travel to be out in good time.

– The snowfall becomes a little more difficult to handle if it’s windy at the same time, precisely because there can be snowdrifts and poorer visibility.

The amount of snow that comes may vary locally. But since it is expected to snow for a longer period of time, anything between five and 15 centimeters can fall. In Uppsala county, it can reach up to 20 centimeters locally.

– If it’s windy, you can get drifts where it feels like more or less, says Emma Rosengren.
