‘Smiling Angel’ Lee Min-seon (26, NH Nonghyup Bank) added another world champion title in two days. Following singles, she has also become the queen of world soft tennis (tennis).

At the 17th World Tennis Championships held in Anseong-si, Gyeonggi-do on the 7th, Lee Min-seon teamed up with her teammate Lee Jeong-un (23) to compete in the women’s doubles finals and defeat the Japanese team of Noa Takahashi (27) and Haruka Kubo (25) 5-4 (1-4, 4-2, 1-4, 5-3, 5-3, 4-2, 3-5, 7-3).

It has been nine years since the Korean team won the gold medal in the women’s doubles at the World Championships, when the pair of Kim Ae-kyung (36) and Joo Ok (35) won the gold medal at the 2015 New Delhi Games.

Kim Ae-kyung and Joo-ok also played for NH Nonghyup Bank, just like Lee Min-seon and Lee Jeong-un.

Lee Min-seon, who advanced to the second round of the competition after the women’s singles on the 5th, said, “I gritted my teeth even more because I thought I was going to be playing against Japan. I think I put in more effort because I didn’t want to lose.”

The Takahashi-Kubo team is the team that defeated the Korean representative Im Jin-ah (22, NH Nonghyup Bank)-Ji Da-young (26, Anseong City Hall) team in the semifinals of the women’s team event at the Hangzhou Asian Games last year.

Then, Lee Min-seon lost to Onoue Kurumi (28), and Korea failed to advance to the finals.

Lee Ji-woon, who won a gold medal in her first individual World Championships, said with tears in her eyes, “I worked hard and I’m so happy that the results turned out well.”

In the men’s doubles final held earlier, the pair of Kim Jin-woong (34, Suwon City Hall) and Chu Moon-soo (31, Sunchang City Hall) lost 4-5 (4-1, 1-4 4-1, 4-1, 2-4, 1-4, 5-3, 1-4, 5-7) to the pair of Yu Kai-wen (29) and Guo Jian-qun (26) of Taiwan.

The men’s national team, which failed to win a gold medal in the doubles event following the singles event, will attempt to restore its honor through the team event.

The women’s team, which has already won three gold medals including mixed doubles, dreams of a ‘sweep’ victory.

About 400 players and officials from 31 countries around the world, including Korea, Taiwan, and Japan, which are considered the ‘Big 3’ of tennis, participated in this competition held at Anseong Sports Complex until the 9th.
