The highest organization of international cricket, ICC, is trying its best to spread cricket globally. The United States has also made maximum plans to strengthen cricket in its own country. That is why the country’s cricket board wants to introduce Major League Cricket (MLC) in the country.
For that purpose, they are trying their best to bring the big star cricketers of different countries to the league of their country. The organizers added Australia’s World Cup-winning star Steven Smith in that sequence. Smith signed with the tournament franchise Washington Freedom.
This competition will start on July 4.
Smith served as Washington Freedom Ambassador last year. This time the Aussie star will play in the competition as there is a chance. Smith plays for New South Wales in Australian domestic cricket. His teammates Moises Henriques, Tanveer Sangh and Ben Dwarshuis are in the Freedom squad.
Smith has an apartment in New York. Earlier, he said that it would be great to be able to play in the United States. Apart from Smith, Australia’s Adam Zampa will play for the Los Angeles Knight Riders, Spencer Johnson for the Knight Riders and Tim David for the Mumbai Indians New York in Major League Cricket. Some more stars will join the competition after the T20 World Cup. T20 World Cup in USA and West Indies will continue till June 29.
Smith had previously said of playing in the MLC, “There’s talk of a league everywhere now and I think a lot of cricketers will go and play there at the end of their careers. So I will think about this in the future. The market for cricket in the United States is only developing. Let’s see how it goes.’
