The president of the “New Left” Parliamentary Group, Alexis Haritsis, and the mayor of Ioannina, Thomas Begas, had the opportunity to discuss issues concerning self-government, the Municipality of Ioannina and the wider area of Ioannina, in their meeting at the City Hall.
The two men knew each other from the period of the mayor’s previous term, when Alexis Haritsis was Minister of the Interior, having very good cooperation on a number of issues.
After the end of the meeting, in which Ioannina MP Meropi Tzoufi also participated, Mr. Begas stated that his permanent position is dialogue and the exchange of views with all the parliamentary parties of the democratic spectrum, looking forward to cooperation with them, with the aim of solving the issues that concern the Municipality of Ioannita, but also the self-government in general.
The issues discussed were mentioned, later, in a press conference by Al. Charitsis, making it known that the issue of smog and the inactivity in recent years in relation to basic infrastructure in the region were raised, while opinions were also exchanged about the University, with an emphasis on the risks posed by the privatization of higher education, especially for regional institutions.
