For the second consecutive day, dense smoke from fires covered the landscape of Manaus this Thursday (12), reducing air quality to levels dangerous to health. The situation has been repeating itself for weeks due to the fires that, according to the city council, are occurring in the metropolitan region.

Data from the Selva project, developed by the State University of Amazonas, show that several parts of the city have suffered from terrible air quality.

During the morning, one of the stations recorded a concentration of fine particulate matter of 298.9 µg/m³ (micrograms per cubic meter). According to the scale of the National Environmental Council, air is considered bad from 125 µg/m³.

The smoke led the municipality to suspend events such as the Boi Manaus cultural festival. The event was scheduled for the 21st to the 23rd, but was postponed indefinitely. The Feirinha do Tururi, which was going to start this weekend, was also suspended.

It had already been announced that the Manaus International Marathon, which was scheduled for October 15, was postponed to December.
