Dubai: The shortlist for the 2022 ICC Awards for the best cricketers is ready. Five Indian stars including Smriti Manthana and Suryakumar Yadav are in the list. The awards will be announced at the end of next month. In 2022, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has recognized 12 categories for outstanding players with consistent performances.

Smriti Manthana is on the verge of becoming the first actress in history to win the Best Actress trophy three times. Apart from Smriti, New Zealand’s Amreaya Kerr, Australia’s Beth Mooney and England’s Nat Skiver have been shortlisted for the ICC Women’s Player of the Year award. India also benefited as Yashtika Bhatia and Renuka Singh made it to the four-member shortlist for the best prospects in women’s cricket.

Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh will also be considered for the Young Player of the Year award. New Zealand’s Finn Allen, South Africa’s Marco Janssen and Afghanistan’s Ibrahi Zadran are the other nominees for the Emerging Player award.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam, New Zealand pacer Tim Southee, England captain and all-rounder Ben Stokes and Zimbabwe all-rounder Sikandar Raza will compete for the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for the best male player. No one from India found a place in the shortlist for the best Test – ODI players.
The award winners will be decided by the ICC Voting Academy consisting of cricket writers and commentators and cricket fans voting on the ICC website. Along with the ICC awards, the ICC XI, which consists of the top 11 players of the past year, will also be announced at the end of January.
