Meenambakkam: Gold gum worth Rs 82.5 lakh smuggled to Chennai by flight from Sharjah has been seized. In this regard, the customs department has arrested the Sudanese passenger and is investigating.

A Gulf Airways passenger flight from Sharjah arrived at Chennai International Airport last night. The passengers were checked by customs officials. A Sudanese passenger came to Chennai via Sharjah from Sudan on tourist visa.

He got suspicious. They stopped him and questioned him. He spoke contradictorily. His belongings were searched. nothing. As the suspicion remained, they took him to a separate room and searched him. They found the parcels hidden in underwear and anus.

When I took it apart, there was gold paste. The total was 1.85 kg. The international value is Rs.82.5 lakhs. They arrested him and confiscated the gold paste. On investigation, it was revealed that he belonged to an international gold smuggling ring. They are investigating to whom he took this gold paste in Chennai. The incident has created a stir.
