SNCF Réseau switches to recruitment in 24 hours flat

by time news

To get out of procedures that are too long, the company organizes sessions with a dozen candidates, a recruiter, an operational person and a psychologist.

“A job in 24 hours”: the operation led by SNCF Réseau, which manages the railways, started on May 23 in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin). Before stages in Bordeaux (Gironde), Lyon (Rhône), Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis), Mantes (Yvelines), while Toulouse (Haute-Garonne), Trappes (Yvelines) or Rennes (Ille -et-Vilaine).

The principle ? Gather candidates with a small group of recruitment professionals, company staff and psychologists, to try to seduce the best profiles in one day.

“Tensions on the job market affect all of our businesses and most of the major population poolsemphasizes Misoo Yoon, HR Director General of SNCF Réseau. By favoring an agile approach, we increase our attractiveness. The nuggets should not have the feeling that the recruitment process will take weeks. »

2500 recruitment in 2022

For the candidates as well as for the company, the gain is obvious. The former get a quick response from SNCF Réseau and know what to expect. As for the company, it is thus forcing itself to be efficient and rapid. Since the spring, around thirty people have been recruited

The year 2022 is a pivotal period in terms of recruitment for SNCF Réseau, which employs 53,000 people. The company plans to hire 2,500 people this year, up from 1,800 in 2021.

Sixty percent of newcomers join maintenance and works activities, 30% operation and traffic, and finally 10% design offices and engineering.

Four months of training

The operation “A job in 24 hours” targets in particular positions in traffic. For these professions, no training is required upstream because SNCF Réseau has its own campuses – in Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine), Saint-Priest (Rhône) and Bègles (Gironde) to provide know-how . Four months are necessary – between academic learning and stays in the field – before a new recruit is operational.

“The referral trades cover a whole range of activitiescommented If I develop. We think of mechanical levers but there is also and above all the handling of technological tools. » The campuses are state-of-the-art facilities, designed to be able to replicate the full complexity of the rail network.

Unlikely to be wrong

“Twenty-four hours may seem a bit short to identify a personality, its potential and its future skillsexplains the general manager of HR. But the teams set up for these days are used to this exerciseinsists. When the opinions of a recruiter, an operational and a psychologist converge, there is little chance of being wrong. »

As a general rule, the “promotion” assembled for each operation is a dozen people from the region where the operation is taking place. The format is intended to be both educational and user-friendly: candidates can, for example, visit a signal box. “We seek at least as much to recruit as to retain: the audience must be able to project themselves into a business career and not just rejoice at the promise of a job. »

A financial effort

Since 2020, SNCF Réseau no longer recruits with railway worker status. This gives him more flexibility to adjust the remuneration according to the profiles.

“Apart from the financial aspect, the quest for meaning dear to young workers finds fertile ground with us.estime Misoo Yoon. In addition to service missions, the direct contribution to the ecological transition is something that resonates. Not to mention those who have been passionate about the world of rail since their earliest childhood and who find a way to access it. »

This “24 hours for a job” initiative will not stop at the end of this year; on the contrary, it is intended to be permanent, it being understood that for specific positions, the company remains on a classic scheme of successive interviews.
