Be careful if you are one of the 4.5 million French people to have an Avantage card. From this Tuesday, August 29, the ceilings of this subscription which allows for more affordable prices on TGV and Intercités, increase by 10 euros. Thus, the maximum prices of tickets purchased in this way will be increased from 39 to 49 euros for journeys of less than an hour and a half, from 59 to 69 euros for those between 1h30 and 3 hours and from 79 to 89 euros over over 3 hours. That is an increase of 13 to 25%.
This increase had been announced by the SNCF in the heart of July. The railway company had justified it by inflation and rising energy costs. “I remind you that this year we are subject to increases in charges of 13% but that we have only decided on an increase of 5% on average in ticket prices. We are still facing significant inflation, justified Alain Krakovitch, director of TGV – Intercités at the time. This increase in the ceilings will only allow us to stick to the 5% increase. “And to recall in passing that the beneficiaries of the card were already paying” in the majority of cases less than the ceiling price “.
A promotion until September 5
No change, however, on the other conditions of the Avantage card: it still allows you to obtain up to 30% reduction on a journey and 60% for accompanying children. To benefit from it, the traveler must book a round trip with a weekend included in the dates, in second class and without a connection. The price to acquire this card also remains unchanged: it is still 49 euros.
Nevertheless, from this Tuesday, the SNCF offers it with a 50% reduction until September 5, i.e. at 24.50 euros. “The promotion is valid for any purchase or renewal of an Avantage discount card (young, adult and senior). Customers have up to 5 months after the date of purchase to activate their card”, specifies the railway company which also announces promotions on subscriptions for TER in several regions.
