The Sahara Desert is one of the hottest places on earth. But due to the prevailing climatic conditions there, the desert is surrounded by snow. It was captured on camera by photographer Karim Bouchetata.

Temperatures of up to 58 degrees Celsius have been reported in the Sahara Desert, which stretches across the African continent. Such a desert is surrounded by snow.

Temperatures have recently dropped below -2 degrees Celsius in the Ain Sefra region of northwestern Algeria. So the sandy surface of the desert is surrounded by snow. Photographer Karim Bouchetata photographed it.

This area surrounding the Atlas Mountains is known as ‘The Gateway to the Desert’. This area is located about 1000 meters above sea level. It is said that this area was previously surrounded by snow. This is the fifth consecutive snowfall in 1979, 2016, 2018 and 2021.

These scenes are currently going viral on social media. Snowfall is said to be a rare occurrence in this desert due to the lack of moisture in the air even though it is cold at night.
