The report, presented at a press conference in Rabat, takes stock of the state of the press in the Kingdom on the legislative level as well as on the level of public and private press establishments.

In this document, the SNPM underlines the need to generalize collective agreements in order to protect the socio-economic rights of professionals by instituting in particular an indexation of salaries and compensation and making it a sine qua non condition for obtaining public subsidies.

The report also calls for the revision of laws relating to the press and publishing in order to respect the rights and freedoms set out in international human rights charters, insisting on the condition of having a professional card in order to clean up the sector and fight against imposters while guaranteeing the rights of journalists.

The union therefore called on the Provisional Commission responsible for managing the press and publishing sector to simplify the procedure for obtaining a press card as much as possible.

The report also recommends the revision of the provisions governing the obtaining of public subsidies by requiring, among other things, the respect of collective agreements as well as the socio-economic rights of press professionals, in addition to the creation of new jobs and the upgrading of press companies. The objective is to promote a professional and competitive press.

He also stressed the need to reform the public sector to make it more competitive in order to better serve national causes, adding that diplomatic successes achieved must be publicized by a professional public press capable of addressing regional, continental and international public opinion.
