The Linz regional court took stock on Friday, three months after the start of the procession because of the riots on Halloween night in Linz. 17 lawsuits against 19 perpetrators have now been finally completed. Most of the accused were sentenced to partially or conditionally imprisonment. There were (partial) acquittals. Two more hearings against five suspects are scheduled for June 29 and July 7, it said.

The police were called to a large-scale operation in the city center in the late evening of October 31, 2022. Above all, young people, mostly with a migration background, beat riots. For safety reasons, Linz AG temporarily suspended tram traffic on Landstrasse. Arriving officers were pelted with stones and firecrackers. A total of 129 participants were reported. Proceedings to have their protection status revoked were initiated against 46 people. No one was seriously injured in the riots.

“Anyone who does not adhere to the basic rules of our coexistence must expect all the legal consequences. There is no tolerance for such actions,” said Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) after the incident. A convicted Spaniard who played a leading role in the riots was deported last week. In March, the 19-year-old received 21 months in prison, seven of them unconditionally, for serious communal violence and serious bodily harm.
