Sobyanin: thanks to the video surveillance system, the number of murders in Moscow has decreased by 2.5 times

Moscow has seen a decrease in the number of crimes due to the work of the video surveillance system, said Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin during his report to the Moscow City Duma. According to him, the number of murders fell 2.5 times, burglaries – 13 times, car thefts – nine times, and the number of deaths in road accidents – two times.

“Digital technologies are making a huge contribution to improving the safety of Muscovites. Thanks to the introduction of a video surveillance system, we have achieved a radical reduction in crime and road injuries, ”said Mr. Sobyanin (quoted by RIA Novosti).

The mayor called the further task of improving these technologies, so that every year all areas of Moscow become calmer and safer for everyday life.

In May, the mayor of Moscow said that, thanks to video cameras installed in almost every house in the capital, thousands of wanted criminals were caught. The mayor dismissed that over the past 10 years, thanks to video surveillance and information technology, the number of burglaries has decreased 14 times, and the number of vehicle thefts – nine times.

As Kommersant learned earlier, the Moscow mayor’s office demanded that shopping centers connect the cameras at the entrances to the city’s video surveillance system in order to monitor compliance with the mask regime.
