During the COP29 events, SOCAR will announce its geothermal energy plans following studies.
As Day.Az reports, the vice president of SOCAR stated this in his speech at Baku climate action week Afgan Isaev.
According to him, SOCAR made several commitments during COP28 to decarbonize and reduce methane emissions, and methodically follows them, signing a number of necessary documents during 2024.
“We are introducing new technologies in production and are already recording a significant reduction in carbon dioxide emissions,” Isaev said.
He noted that SOCAR, together with BP, is implementing a unique “green” project – a solar power plant in Jebrail, the energy of which will be transferred to Azerenergy, and in return, an equivalent amount of energy will go to power the oil and gas terminal in Sangachal.
“Our package includes three projects with Masdar for the production of 1 GW of green energy, a project with ACWA power and a number of new ideas with our other partners. Thus, SOCAR contributes to the fight against climate change and outlines new steps,” Isaev said.
