jpnn.comJAKARTA – After being on iOS, social media X is expanding its Passkey login feature which is now available for users on Android devices.

“We’re starting to roll out Passkey as a login option on Android!” the @Safety account posted on the X platform on Thursday.

The Passkey feature was introduced with X for iOS users in the United States in January, and its availability expanded worldwide in April.

Passkey is a new login method that is said to be more secure than traditional passwords.

The technology has been adopted by apps like PayPal, TikTok, and WhatsApp.

Initiated by Google, Apple, Microsoft, and the FIDO Alliance along with the World Wide Web Consortium, Passkey technology is intended to make passwordless logins available across a variety of devices, operating systems, and web browsers.

Unlike logins that rely solely on a combination of username and password, Passkey uses biometric authentication such as Face ID or Touch ID, a PIN, or a physical security authentication key to validate login attempts.

The process combines the benefits of two-factor authentication (2FA) into one step, to make the login process both smoother and more secure.
