(Social) Scam Hits the Bus: “No Free Pass”

by time news

A fake news circulating on Facebook and promising free bus and train passes in Emilia Romagna. A scam spread with a post. There have been numerous reports since the beginning of August to Start Romagna and the regional Urp. And it is Start Romagna itself that warns against fake news. “Be careful – they say from Start Romagna – the posts that are circulating in recent weeks on Facebook and that promise free bus or regional train passes for all residents of Emilia-Romagna, are a scam”.

This is a fake ‘I move’ communication campaign launched on the Meta platform by fake profiles to obtain money or steal the identity of citizens. The fraud was reported to the Postal Police and to Meta to identify those responsible and block the pages. But it is a complex procedure and blocking the fake pages takes time and many are falling into the trap.

“We have received about ten calls in recent days,” Start Romagna explains. “Customers tell us that they have signed up for the offer and are asking why the subscription hasn’t arrived. We explain that it’s a scam and that they shouldn’t give out their data.”

The fake message, which can be misleading because it shows the image of the regional ‘Mi Muovo’ card, promises six months of free subscription with a special offer. It is important not to click on the URLs reported in the fraudulent communication and always check first on the Region’s website (or that of Mobility ( if there are any savings initiatives for public transport subscribers.

For example, the Region is offering, with the ‘Salta Su’ initiative, a free season ticket for elementary, middle, high school and vocational training institute students, resident in Emilia-Romagna, who choose to go to school using regional buses and trains. A measure that last year allowed over 220 thousand girls and boys under 26 to travel for free.
