One of the main novelties introduced by the Minimum Living Income was the creation of a new supplement to support children, a subsidy outside the IMV itself whose amount is established based on the number of minor members of the cohabitation unit and the age reached on January 1 of the corresponding fiscal year.

The amounts establish different sections in 2022, which at the time of its creation (2021) ranged from 50 euros for those over six years of age and under 18 years of age, to 100 euros for children under three years of age. In January, the same revaluation as for contributory pensions was applied to these amounts, so their amounts increased by 8.5%. Thus, currently the amounts amount to 57.50 euros for each dependent child between six and 18 years old, 80.50 euros for each dependent minor between three and six years old, and 115 euros per child. under three years old.

According to Social Security, “cohabitation units that include minors among their members, meet all the necessary requirements for the granting of the IMV and those established regarding the maximum limits on computable income, net worth and asset test.

This means that the requirements are:

– Income less than 300% of the IMV guaranteed income for your type of home.

– Own less than 150% of the net worth threshold corresponding to your type of household.

– Current IMV recipients will be able to receive this supplement without having to submit any application.

– IMV applicants who have their file pending.

– The beneficiaries of the family protection benefit who meet the requirements. Thus, these are beneficiaries of the economic allowance for a dependent child or minor without a disability or with a disability of less than 33%, whose cohabitation unit is made up exclusively of the members who appear in the file, provided that they meet the necessary conditions to access to the child support supplement, and that the amount is equal to or greater than what they were receiving, and they must opt for one of the two benefits.

How is this help processed?

In the cases described above, this aid will be recognized ex officio by Social Security. Likewise, you can check if you are entitled to this new add-on using the simulator of the National Institute of Social Security (INSS) to find out if you have the right to receive the IMV.

For the processing of this supplement, the procedure will be the same as for the application for the Minimum Living Income, through these means:

– Through a form ‘online

– Through the model IMV application.
