The Social Security Fund (CSS) announced this Thursday, October 12, that it will go to the international market to supply medicines to the Dr. Arnulfo Arias Madrid Hospital Complex.

This October 12, a group of CSS authorities guaranteed the supply of most of the medications and supplies used to perform the different surgeries.

For this reason, he reiterated the measures to purchase medicines internationally that cannot be purchased from local distributors.

Yelkys Gill, national director of Health Services and Benefits of the CSS, indicated that in a meeting held with the Medical Directorate of the Complex a list of 15 items was verified, most of which are supplied, except for atropine, which is offered by three companies that verbally communicated that this product will not be sold in Panama.

“With this scenario we will have to establish another mechanism, which is to acquire the medication abroad, in order to guarantee our patients that they have the required medications,” Gill emphasized.

Gill stressed that the procedure for acquiring the medicine is already being carried out and that the Purchasing, Supply, Logistics and Health departments have this information.

He added that Social Security reiterated its commitment to the insured to maintain timely and quality care for the insured population.

“We are acting responsibly and establishing all existing mechanisms because for the CSS, life is priceless,” the official highlighted.

For his part, Alberto Mattatall, deputy medical director of the Hospital Complex, indicated that this is a reference hospital that receives patients from all over the country, a situation that has worsened because at this time it receives patients from the Nicolás Solano Hospital, of the Ministry of Health in the district of La Chorrera, due to the damage that that facility suffered to its air conditioning system.

Mattatall stated that lately there has been an increase in demand at the Hospital Complex due to the significant increase in patients traveling from various sectors of the province of Panama Oeste.
