Societies of journalists denounce police violence against journalists Rémy Buisine and Marc Chaumeil during the May Day demonstration in Paris

NWe, companies of editors and journalists, give our full support to our colleagues Rémy Buisine, journalist at “Brut”, and Marc Chaumeil, photojournalist (who worked for a long time at “Le Monde”). Both filed complaints.

As they ply their trade and cover the demonstration on 1^is May in Paris, and although they were clearly identifiable as journalists, our colleagues were beaten several times by the police. A video shows Rémy Buisine, on the ground, when he receives a violent charge from the police with a truncheon. He had just received a shield blow.

At the end of the demonstration, while denouncing the treatment to which he was subjected, our colleague Rémy Buisine was then publicly implicated, in messages questioning his quality as a journalist or his sense of responsibility. .

The violence of the security forces is inadmissible in a rule of law, where the freedom of the press and the freedom to inform must in no case be hindered. No journalist in the exercise of his profession should face such practices. We call on politicians and the government to denounce this violence so that it does not happen again.
