Söder for shorter quarantine: “Can’t paralyze the whole country” – domestic policy

by time news

Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) wants to change the quarantine rules in Germany because of the rapid but apparently milder spread of the Omikron variant.

“Of course we have to review the current quarantine rules. With a rapidly growing epidemic, we cannot simply paralyze the whole country from one day to the next, ”Söder told BILD.

Söder called on the federal government to “now quickly submit a proposal”. This applies not only to the critical infrastructure, but also to normal people’s lives.

The following currently applies: Anyone infected with Omikron in Germany must be in quarantine for 14 days. Same game with contact persons: two weeks of isolation without the possibility of free testing.

The traffic light coalition wants to listen to the Federal Government’s expert advice.

▶ ︎ The FDP health expert Christine Aschenberg-Dugnus (62) calls on the 19-member committee to “comment promptly” on the duration of the quarantine.

In an interview with BILD, the FDP politician said, in principle, they can imagine “reducing the quarantine time for those who have been boosted. Because according to everything we know, boosted patients have a significantly higher level of protection against the Omikron variant ”.

But not only the question of the quarantine duration, also the emergency plans in the area of critical infrastructure and economy “need to be revised in order to be prepared for Omikron”, Aschenberg-Dugnus continues. The Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Aid (BKK) is involved in the Expert Council and is developing proposals.

SPD parliamentary group vice Dagmar Schmidt (48) also wants to wait for the assessment of the expert council: “I expect that the experts will also deal with the quarantine rules in their next report, on this basis we can then revise the rules”, she said to the “world”.

BILD learned that the quarantine should be revised in a timely manner, at the latest by the Prime Minister’s Conference on January 7th. Exceptions should be planned for vaccinated, convalescent and boosted people.

Söder: Bonus for all employees in the healthcare sector

CSU boss Söder also called for the so-called care bonus to be extended to all employees in the health sector.

In a BILD interview, Söder said: “We need a care bonus for everyone who has to do with medical care.”

Specifically, it goes “from the hospital staff to the medical assistants,” said Söder.

The SPD, Greens and FDP have so far agreed on a bonus for nursing staff, which is to be paid out in early 2022.

The CSU chairman also called on the federal government to make more efforts for the economy. “We need full strength in economic aid for threatened industries. It cannot be that the traffic light reallocates 60 billion euros in debt for coalition projects instead of paying out better corona aid, ”Söder told BILD.
