In addition to Markus Söder, his daughter Gloria-Sophie Burkandt also appeared at the opening of the Oktoberfest – and caused a surprise with her dirndl.
The 189th Munich Oktoberfest opened on Saturday. Also present was Markus Söder, who appeared for the first time at the tapping of the Wiesn in lederhosen. But not only the Bavarian Prime Minister, his daughter also wore traditional costume. Her outfit was not only traditional, but also a statement of love.
Gloria-Sophie Burkandt appeared at the start of the Oktoberfest in a blue dirndl. Much more meaningful than the color of her look, however, was the ribbon that adorned her waist. She tied it into a bow – on her right hand. As Oktoberfest fans will know, a bow on the right hand symbolizes that you are married or in a relationship. Singles, on the other hand, traditionally wear the bow on the left hand. She shared a picture of her look on Instagram.
The fact that Gloria-Sophie Burkandt tied her dirndl bow on the right side was no coincidence, but a conscious decision. “I’m happily engaged and that’s why I thought I’d show it here at the Oktoberfest for the first time,” she explained in an interview with the “Bild” newspaper.
She had asked her boyfriend beforehand “whether it was okay to make this public now.” He was currently abroad “and would like to stay out of the public eye for a while.” Burkandt enthused: “But I’m very happy.”
