In a decision taken in today’s Council of Ministers, a Royal Decree has been approved that brings with it significant changes to the structure of the Ministry of Justice.

The key figure in this readjustment is Sofía Puente, the sister of the current Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, who will assume the position of General Secretary for Innovation and Quality of Justice. This position was previously held by Manuel Olmedo, who, in turn, will become the new Secretary of State for Justice, succeeding Tontxu Rodríguez.

Sofía Puente has until now held the position of general director of Legal Security and Public Faith. In addition, she has been a member of the Fiscal Council between 2014 and 2018, playing the role of director of the Center for Legal Studies from 2010 to 2012. Her experience also includes roles as deputy prosecutor for Violence against Women and contributions in the prosecutor’s offices of Plasencia, Cádiz , Palencia, Valladolid and Zamora. She has been an integral part of the transformation process of the Civil Registry.

The relevance of this change not only lies in Sofía Puente’s experience and career, but also in the economic aspect. As general director of Legal Security and Public Faith, her salary was 102,458.14 euros gross per year. However, with her new appointment, her remuneration is expected to see a considerable increase. Although it has not yet been officially revealed, taking into account the salary of her predecessor, Manuel Olmedo, who received 118,344.65 euros gross per year, a salary increase of 15,886.51 euros per year is anticipated.

In more detailed figures, Sofía Puente will receive approximately 8,453.19 euros gross per month in her new position, which represents a monthly increase of 1,134.75 euros compared to her previous position.
