Solar eclipse on Monday: Here’s how you can see it live

On April 8th there will be a total Solar eclipse instead of. You don’t see much of it in Germany. An interesting cooperation between NASA and Twitch and the game developer Epic Games should make it possible to still be there live.

The joint solar eclipse project was announced in a press release on Friday: “With live images and more, Twitch and NASA enable a particularly dynamic alternative to experience this moment as a community and among fans. Next Monday, viewers can watch Twitch.tv/nasa Experience the event via live stream, no matter where you are in the world.”

NASA and Epic Games (Microsoft) are also planning an event, “which have teamed up with the National Esports Association. NEA students have created topic-specific solar eclipse versions in Fortnite and Minecraft, which are played by streamers on Twitch. The streams then run together with the live recordings from NASA as “Stream Together”.

The live broadcasts can be seen on Monday, April 8th from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

That’s what’s coming up with the 2024 solar eclipse

Incidentally, such an event is particularly interesting for space research. And for several reasons. This fall, the European Space Agency (ESA) will create an artificial solar eclipse with a satellite for the first time as part of the Proba-3 mission.

NASA, in turn, wants to launch three rockets into the sky at the same time as the solar eclipse on April 8th. This serves to investigate whether the phenomenon causes disturbances in the earth’s atmosphere. For example, it is currently assumed that there are waves in the ionosphere.
