A solar eclipse is when the Earth, Moon, and Sun come together in a straight line. During a solar eclipse, the moon’s shadow falls on the earth.

The solar eclipse will take place today at 4 pm. This solar eclipse can be seen in the southern parts of Russia, Kazakhstan, European countries, North Africa, Middle East countries and some parts of Asia. The global solar eclipse starts at 14:19 and ends at 18:32. 80 percent of the sun will be covered by the moon in central Russia.

Total solar eclipse can be seen in India around 5.30 pm. The maximum duration of this solar eclipse will be 1 hour 45 minutes in India. This solar eclipse will be visible for a maximum period of 12 minutes in Dwarka, Gujarat and a minimum period of 12 minutes in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal.

Also, the cities of Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Surat, Jaipur, Indore, Bhopal, Ludhiana, Agra, Chandigarh, Ujjain, Mathura, Porbandar, Gandhinagar, Silvassa, Panaji will see the solar eclipse for more than an hour.

Public should not see this eclipse with bare eyes. Do not look with binoculars or filmstrips. By wearing special glasses that reduce sunlight, the image of the sun can be seen through a lens.

In Tamil Nadu, the solar eclipse will be visible for less than an hour in Chennai, Coimbatore, Ooty and Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Patna, Bengaluru, Thiruvananthapuram, Mangalore, Kanpur, Lucknow, Nagpur, Varanasi.

Chennai will start at 5.14 am and end at 5.50 am, with a maximum of 8 percent solar eclipse.

It is not found in Aijol, Dibrugarh, Imphal, Itanagar, Kohima, Silchar, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Earlier in Tamilnadu solar eclipse occurred on June 21-2020. A similar solar eclipse will be seen again on August 2, 2027.
