Complaint that a soldier was beaten up in Cherthala, Alappuzha. Jobin Sabu, a native of Pathanapuram, was allegedly assaulted in Cherthala police custody. Jobin is accused in the case of beating SI during a vehicle inspection. Job, who was remanded, was admitted to Vandanam Medical College Hospital for treatment. Relatives allege the soldiers were brutally beaten and suffered spinal injuries.

The Cherthala Highway Police patrol team stopped a vehicle during a check yesterday. He said the vehicle was speeding and he was driving under the influence of alcohol. But the drivers did not stop and chased and stopped. Jobin, a soldier, was one of them.

When the vehicle was stopped, SI Josie Stephen was beaten by Jobin and others. The injured SI was admitted to Cherthala Taluk Hospital. Shameer Mohammad, a native of Kunnikode, Pathanapuram, and Bipin Raj, a native of Avanishwaram, Pathanapuram, are the other accused in the case.

Job was produced in court the evening of his detention. But before that, the relatives alleged that he was brutally beaten by the police in the lockup. Relatives are not allowed to visit the remanded soldier at the hospital. Relative Prakash told Twentyfour that the battered Job could not even walk.
