UAZ has entered the final stage of a comprehensive three-year restructuring program, the Sollers Group, which includes the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant, reported on November 18. The key goal of the restructuring is to concentrate within the company the assets and competencies of a modern automaker, following the model used in the global auto industry, Sollers explains. The perimeter of these assets includes stamping, welding, body painting and vehicle assembly.
Restructuring is necessary to create a partnership between UAZ and the global auto concern, a source familiar with Sollers’ plans explained to Vedomosti. According to him, neither UAZ nor Sollers will be able to cope with the investment burden arising from the creation of a new model line on their own. It is assumed that the foreign partner will bring its own platform for the production of cars under its own brand and under the UAZ brand. At the same time, the plant will continue to assemble its own models, as it is doing now, the interlocutor assures. The creation of the partnership is planned for 2022, explained the source of Vedomosti, without disclosing its potential participants.
