The possibilities in music for Gil Cerezo are endless. Belonging to a band as popular as Kinky led him to want to explore his talent as a soloist.
“It is a necessity in the face of the overproduction of ideas that often does not align with the ideology of a band. What’s more, sometimes it cannot fit with the times in a grouping.
“So I got interested in looking for this side of myself without having to leave my bandmates or without having to boast that we’re breaking up or anything like that. It’s cool to explore other possibilities,” the musician said in an interview with this newspaper.
He assured that there is no line to follow on this solo project and that the music he will present is not a kind of “lost tapes” at all, since they were not really intended for her.
“This project does not have a line to follow, rather, they are songs that were accumulating during the pandemic, songs that I made and yes, some were for Kinky and came out on the album Iron, but I kept many others because they had a very different vibe from the band.
“They are a kind of lost tapes because they were recorded and stored, but it’s not that they were left on the way to the final cut of the album with Kinky. They had a completely different intention,” Cerezo continuous.
One of the songs that mark his passage to the solo career is named after Love Comes with Hair, which was generated from the depths of a personal experience.
“It was an experience that made me reflect that we don’t have to overvalue love or put a curtain or veil on it, saying that everything has to be beautiful. Love is everyday. It is the custom, it is the other person’s habits and your own. This communion in a couple comes from something much deeper than the love that is depicted in movies or on social media. “The breaking of that reality is that other love that we are entering into in a relationship as a couple and that is beautiful despite the hairs and the bad smells. It is a real integration,” added Cerezo.
In this sense, the musician says he maintains the spirit of experimentation latent for this solo step.
“I think it’s a base that I like in the music and what keeps me going is being attentive to new sounds and seeing what sound we have left to include it,” he said.
In that sense, he also keeps listening to music constantly new.
“I do listen to classics as a way of remembering them, but I always look for recent music, even new releases from bands from the past. I like to be informed about what is happening in the industry.
“I think there are many interesting new things, for example, the fact that regional Mexican music is at the forefront of the world has had an impact on pop music as well. There are more interesting songs than there were 20 years ago,” he said.
Likewise, Cerezo is already preparing the release of his full album from which he presented his fourth single entitled Break.
“The sixth single will be the full album. I like to give each song its time and see how it is received by listeners. I think it is a new beginning and people have understood it,” concluded Gil Cerezo.
