The energy cooperative I am Energy has increased by 22.8% renewable energy production in one year and has reached 23,109 MWh. In addition, the self-production of energy by partners is also growing strongly and the number of contracts with people who have plates touched 10,000, which represents 8% of all the contracts that the Girona energy company has. In total, in 2022 they produced 38,485 MWh. One of the reasons for this growth is the collective purchases d’photovoltaic installations, as 1,233 self-production points were put into operation over the course of last year, which have enabled the generation of 5,040 MWh. On the other hand, the number of partners of Som Energia has also grown compared to 2021, up to 83.765.

The Girona cooperative Som Energia takes stock of 2022 and assures that the year has been marked by the volatility of energy prices and an upward revision, which has led to a drop in demand. The cooperative has marketed 13.3% less energy compared to 2021, but turnover has grown by 69.1%, reaching 134 million euros. The reason is precisely the increase in the price of light.

Despite everything, the cooperative’s own production has grown by 22.8%, reaching 23,109 KWh. Part of this increase is explained by the increase in contracts for people with installed photovoltaic panels. This 2022, the 10,000 contracts (8% of the total) have been signed and produced 38,485 KWh.

One of the reasons for the growth of self-production is the collective purchases of individual photovoltaic installations that the cooperative promotes through local groups. Throughout 2022, 1,233 more installations have been put into operation, allowing 5,040 KWh of renewable energy to be introduced into the grid annually.

This year the cooperative plans to start a pilot test of the new compensation tool for production surpluses. This will mean that contracts for people who have plates at home and have surpluses that have not been cleared on their monthly bill can receive a discount on their next receipts.

Looking ahead to 2023, the Girona-based energy company expects to sell 1.3% more energy and bring in 5.8% more with an annual turnover of 141.7 million euros.

Despite the fact that the year 2022 was difficult and turbulent, the cooperative was able to overcome it with solvency, thanks in part to the voluntary contributions to the share capital worth 16.6 million euros made by more than 8,000 people and entities partners Since the end of 2022, Som Energia has left behind the extraordinary measures and, therefore, has recovered normality in the entry of new supply contracts.
